The Rise of New Powers
Many of us in Europe wonder how we are ever going to compete with the Chinese "dragons" and the Indian "elephants";
with their massive low-cost leverage, duly underpinned by a young, flourishing and well-educated workforce,
with bright ideas and the prospect of attainable success further fuelling their ambitions and killer instincts.
Of course, European enterprises in the manufacturing,
textiles, fashion, engineering and steel industries have previously experienced similar crisis of confidence.
However, the scale of change that we are witnessing today has never been so great, or extensive.
Hindsight is Good. But Foresight is Better.
European enterprises have grown too used to following the tried and tested business practices that were evolved over the past two decades.
Whilst the organisational structures may have become flatter in response to the
growing pressures to improve productivity and cut costs, the attitudes to entrepreneurship and enterprise have largely remained unchanged.
This is clearly evident in the widely available industry statistics that highlight the disparity between the figures showing the number of people who would like to start their own businesses and those that actually do.
Although we can all learn new skills and feel assured by the tried and tested ways of
running our businesses, today’s competitive environment demands better leverage of entrepreneurship and foresight ....
