EU Bulletin

EU Bulletin is an online resource from Excellis Business Consulting to disseminate information on the European Union (EU) open consultations and other pertinent developments, usually instigated by the European Commission.

EU Bulletin is intended to help stimulate and increase participation levels in EU open consultations from all stakeholders, particularly micro and SME businesses and entrepreneurs.

Excellis Business Consulting operates on an international basis, and therefore despite the ongoing changes to the UK and EU relationship, the EU bulletin service that we offer will remain relevant to all our clients, partners and business associates in Europe, UK and worldwide.

Eurofound publishes 'Anticipating and managing the impact of change - Digitisation in the workplace'

November, 2021

Status: Open

A new research report from Eurofound investigates, explores and extrapolates the impact of digitisation in the workplace. High-potential and key technologies that are already having an impact on modern workplaces are analysed together with supporting real-life case studies.

In particular, the report examines the impact of internet of things (IoT), 3D printing (Additive Manufacturing), and virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR); and it also acknowledges the growing prevalence of artificial intelligence (AI) robotics and autonomous vehicles (including drones) within the workplace.

The following extract from the report underscores the challenges that policymakers are currently facing:
Digitalisation is a challenging area for policymakers as it is driven by technologies and applications – such as the internet of things (IoT), virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) devices, 3D printing, AI, robotics and autonomous vehicles (including drones) – that are rapidly developing and span many industries and use cases. There is also a tension in European and national policymaking and policy discourse between, on the one hand, the requirement to be at the forefront of the digital transformation and facilitate innovation and, on the other hand, the need to identify and address the new challenges arising from an increasingly connected and technologically embedded work environment.
The report also provides a number of very poignant policy pointers, and also highlights the business challenges and potential opportunities for small- and medium-sized organisations (SMEs).
